MER – MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY
MER is an abbreviation for Myofascial Energetic Release, which refers to the energetic release of muscle and connective tissue. MER therapy is an evolution of Osho’s balancing massage.
MER is a slow, meditative, yet deep and powerful bodywork approach that releases deeply held physical tension patterns and locked-in emotions. It combines deep tissue and myofascial massage, joint release, and energy balancing. The approach is characterized by awareness, compassion, and meditativeness, which are central components of this therapy.
MER bodywork is deeply relaxing and therapeutic: it helps restore balance between body and mind, improve posture, and release psychological holding patterns that cause pain and tension. It also helps reduce stress, increase joint mobility, improve circulation and energy flow, enhance sleep quality, and bring greater clarity.
The therapy technique is gentle, smooth, and painless. It involves pressing, palpation, and soft stretching of the tissues. The techniques used in myofascial therapy for deep tissue work are fundamentally different from those in classical massage. These are specialized tissue stretches performed with the fingertips.
Special sessions have been developed for the neck and back; back, legs, knees, and pelvic area; face, head, shoulders, and arms; and the sternum and abdominal area, depending on the issue the person is experiencing.
It is recommended to undergo this bodywork as a course of treatments, for example, once a week for a month or every other week for a total of four sessions. A course allows for deeper results and helps reinforce the changes. However, the number of sessions needed depends on the individual.
It is advised not to eat for 1.5 hours before the session. After the session, it is recommended to drink water to help flush out released toxins.
Myofascial therapy is successfully used not only for treatment but also in aesthetic practice. As the body heals and the function of its organs and systems is restored, body shape improves as a result. In some cases, even excess body weight may decrease.
