LYMPHATIC THERAPY

Lymphatic Therapy is used for the treatment of various swellings and edemas. Swelling may occur in the arms, face, chest, back, thighs, calves, knees, etc., following various traumas, chronic joint diseases, or surgeries.

Lymphatic therapy consists of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), mechanical lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging (compression therapy), exercises that improve lymph circulation, skin care, and counseling for the patient and their family members.

All of these components support and enhance the effectiveness of the therapy. Complex lymphatic therapy is necessary when swelling does not soften with lymphatic massage alone and measurements do not decrease. This comprehensive approach yields the best therapeutic results even in advanced cases, as compression (which accounts for 80% of the therapy's effectiveness) reduces fluid reflux into the tissues, softens the tissue, decreases swelling, and improves tissue metabolism.

Compression therapy involves two main activities: first, compression bandaging with low-stretch elastic bandages as part of complex lymphatic therapy; and second, wearing medical compression garments made of circular or flat-knit fabric daily (except at night) after the therapy is completed. Compression garments include, for example, compression stockings, knee-highs, sleeves, gloves, and more.
