KINESIOLOGY TAPING

Kinesiology taping is a rehabilitative taping technique applied with a specific method, aimed at facilitating the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the range of motion. Kinesiology taping is used to influence soft tissues and to prolong the effects of clinical manual therapy.

Kinesiology tape, or kinesio tape, is as elastic as human skin. When applied correctly, the tape forms slight wrinkles as the joint moves, gently lifting the skin. This helps create a microscopic space between the skin and the underlying tissues.

By targeting various receptors in the somatosensory system, kinesio tape helps relieve pain and facilitates the circulation of lymphatic fluid.

The latex-free tape, which can be worn for several days at a time, is safe for both children and the elderly, and is effective in treating a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological, and other medical conditions.

A correct diagnosis is the foundation of successful taping. There are various taping techniques and methods, each designed to achieve the desired effect for a specific issue. The duration the tape is left on also depends on the technique used and the nature of the problem. Since kinesiology taping supports and enhances the body’s natural healing process by improving blood and lymphatic circulation in the affected area, its effects are not limited to just muscles, joints, or tendons.

Anatomically, there is a close connection between the spine and the autonomic nervous system. It is believed that this is one of the mechanisms by which changes in the musculoskeletal system can affect the function of internal organs through certain reflexes. This means that with proper and intentional application of tape, it is also possible to alleviate certain chronic conditions, such as headaches, asthma, insomnia, anxiety, and others.
